Well friends, at long last, here is an update. My goal is to get caught up in a few short installments before I have this baby, but that all depends on when that baby actually comes. And like bees, you never can tell with babies...
So here's a rundown of May:
-Charlie had his preschool program, which is not the same as a preschool graduation at Miss Marsha's Mini-School (a school for mini-people, not a miniature-sized school, because how could they learn to read, if they couldn't even fit inside the building?!!) The program is a culmination of all the songs they've been learning the whole year, set to a cute theme. This year's theme was Alphabet Soup, which explains the chef outfits and the giant can of alphabet soup on stage. And it WAS cute, very cute.

| Charlie and Antonia wait anxiously for the program to start. Antonia was mostly just anxious to have the fruit snacks she knew that I had stashed in my purse. |
 |
| I was REALLY hoping that Charlie would get to keep the wooden spoons, because anything that comes in twos that possesses stick-like qualities becomes a set of drumsticks at our house. And you must know how I love that. |
 |
| Charlie's "part" in the program was to wear these ears and lead the kids in a song about body parts. You can tell by his expression that he took this responsibility VERY seriously. |
 |
| Each kid had a turn throwing a letter into the can of soup. I was unclear about what made the alphabet soup "silly." That was never explained. My personal feeling is that the alphabet is nothing to joke about, whether soup is involved or not. |
 |
| Ain't he cute. And all grown up and ready for kindergarten! |
 |
| This is Antonia's "sad" face. But to me it looks like she's trying to impersonate that creepy fellow from Edvard Munch's "The Scream" |
As soon as the weather was warm enough, which surprisingly enough wasn't until the end of May, we started our regular pilgrimages to Lori's house to swim. Charlie assured me that THIS summer he was going to start swimming without his water wings, because he's five. While he has made great progress in getting fully submerged and going underwater for periods of time, he's still dependant on those water wings, bless his heart. I guess the promise of a super-soaker water gun was not quite enough motivation, (to the great relief of the pigeons around Lori's pool.)

I did buy Antonia some water wings at the beginning of the summer, but even now they are still too loose around her arms for her to feel comfortable in them. But she's perfectly content to spend her time at the pool working on an important and highly classified project she commissioned for herself. It must be classified, because all we can work out is that it involves transporting water to and from various parts of the pool via small buckets or watering cans. Occasionally she'll take a break from her work to get in the baby floatie and "kick! kick! kick!" herself over to the "waterfottle" (waterfall.)

Not having any other pictures to go by, I can't remember much else from May. May is generally a busy month for Will, as the school year wraps up and he has all of his end-of-the-year concerts. May is also when I start concocting lofty ideas of everything we will do as a family and projects we'll complete while he's off for the summer. So setting myself up for disappointment keeps ME busy in May :) This year I tried to be realistic, knowing that I would be disinclined to do much besides stay indoors and eat watermelon, in my current state of rotundity... stick around for a recap of the rest of the summer to see how I did with that!

Juliet always seems to be involved in a similar task while at the pool. We'll have to get them together one day.
